culture and fun on the banks of the elbe

For more than 10 years, HafenCity has been offering fun, culture and art for young and old every summer. The format has been so successful that it has grown beyond HafenCity. In 2022, "Summer in HafenCity" will become "Elbe Summer", extending the activities far beyond HafenCity.

With this in mind, we have also developed a new design for the series of events.

Elbe Summer is a series of events organised by HafenCity Hamburg GmbH. Of course it was important that the design had a certain proximity to HafenCity. But the colours and typography had to be different.

It was also important for us to develop a signet, a figurative mark that works well in social media.

We set off, tried out a lot and created a very active and colorful world.

In the end, the client preferred a stronger connection to the corporate design of HafenCity Hamburg.


The colors were an important point here, which now correspond 100% to the HafenCity color scheme.


The logo, which initially looked very dynamic, was also softened somewhat by the customer.


The font Co from one of my favorite design studios, Dalton Maag, was set against it. Co is a really nice, sans serif font with rounded ends and yet a very geometric basic structure. With variations for text and headlines, it combines beauty with functionality for different type systems.
